There isn't a Christian topic more controversial than Masturbation. There are few pastors or churches that dare touch the topic, and most that do assure those that engage in it a fire and brimstone punishment.I also find it amazing how scripture used to teach against the act is often distorted or will veer off scripture altogether
My challenge to those that appose the act is if it were such a great sin as most churches label it,why aren't more churches speaking out against it ?
Please note this is just my opinion,I don't want to be a stumbling block to those God may be convicting who do it.I just want to separated conviction from condemnation
One of the most quoted scripture refuting the act is Galatians 5:17 verse 21
Now,if one is sticking to their guns abiding in this scripture, then you need to avoid chocolate cake, pie and ice cream that are also desires of the flesh. Bet most anti masturbators wouldn't give up these luxuries either
When I first received The Lord as my personal Savior within that instant of my conversion He immediately showed me as clear as day a few major sins He wanted me to repent of right then. Guess what? Masturbation wasn't one of them. I didn't start feeling condemned til I joined a men's group a few members claimed they needed to stop. This is when the spirit of condemnation hit me like a ton of bricks.I even fell away for a long time feeling so condemned. Some churches are so legalistic, they even forbid men and woman to swim together
I remember at one point in my life I had feverishly sought God and that He wouldn't bless me because I did this. A day later I received a check in the mail from a total stranger with a note God told me to give this to you. Now this is not implying I was blessed because I did it
Paul very clearly told us in 1 Corinthians 7:9 if we can't control out urges to simply Marry. Not fast, pray.cast out a few devils or castrate yourself MARRY.If Masturbation were an issue he would have mentioned so here
If you look at a woman with lust in your heart is another misquoted and often misused scripture. In my case,if I feel my drive has reached a breaking point,my focus is relieving that pressure, not lusting after any woman.
Lets say you were to go out on a date with a very attractive woman, but you feel you couldn't control yourself.
I think the prudent thing to do would be to relieve that pressure as apposed to opening a door for fornication while your making out on the date. Sounds crude, but safer than just taking a cold shower
Hells Bells was a bestselling book and video released in the early 90s that spoke out against secular rock.It was quick to lash out at stars like Alice Cooper and Ozzy often using highly exaggerated even fabricated allegations about their lifestyles. Anything to sell a book, even if it's Christian.
They were quick to point out a teenager committed suicide after listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall. Gee,one kid goes off his nut while the remaining 19 million who bought the album had no problem. So that makes it evil?
My point is Christian authors will often hype up anything just to get their point across. Christian authors and speakers will often point out the horrors of masturbation by mentioning serial killers that engaged it it to make it seem even more evil. Christians can twist any scripture to his or her advantage. Christian books can be great, but make sure what your reading lines up with God's word. Don't believe everything you read
Now,what about guilt some [not all] feel after doing it? You ever stop to think the accuser of the brethren is behind that?. Naturally he'd want masturbators to feel they've been cut off by God
Pastors will often distort scripture, some even veer off of them altogether to prove it's sin
When a young man or woman is going through puberty, their hormones are raging. God created them this way as he did all of us.It's unfortunate that some serve under legalistic pastors who preach fie and brimstone against those who masturbate. It's taught that sex is designed for marriage. This is true,so singles are expected to just let their sexual frustrations build while married couples relieve theirs? My goodness
I remember while attending another men's group 15 years ago the pastor cast a spirit of masturbation out of one of one humiliated brother. A spirit of masturbation? Never heard of that, Certainly nothing in the bible mentioning one either
I often hear of men and woman who feel the need to abstain from even kissing before marriage. Even hand holding is pushing it too far. How unfortunate as their missing out on one of the most enjoyable moments of youth. Making out.I'm not referring to touching each other sexually. In most cases all they would need to do is release that sexual pressure before the met to prevent engaging in sexual activity. Much more effective than a cold shower.
What about porn? I absolutely appose any form of pornography.I struggled with a form of porn called macrophilia I believe is directly linked to the Nephilim mentioned in the old testament. i still fight strong temptations to resist this
I think one of my most sickening life moment was seeing Lisa Bevere on James Robison condemn men for masturbation.First of it was not her place. There is a reason most churches enforce woman pray over only woman and men men and they have separate men and woman's groups
I hope this helps those that feel condemned. Please,if God is convicting you, then heed the voice of The Lord. God may tell someone to stop drinking coffee, but that doesn't make it wrong do everyone drinking it
This is the absolute best You Tube video on the subject
